Refund Policy
Cancellations made 14 days in advance of the workshop date will receive a full refund. Cancellations not made 14 days in advance will not receive a refund.

Cancellation Policy
In case of insufficient registration, Carnegie Science Center reserves the right to cancel any program one week before it begins. All registered participants will receive a full refund.

Girls Workshops

Although these workshop fulfill Girl Scout requirements, they are available to all children.

Our workshops allow you to learn about tons of science topics, satisfy requirements, and bond with friends. In this perfect afternoon activity for Girl Scout Troops, girls will have a fun time discovering, learning, and gaining knowledge and character with friends as they become resourceful leaders!

Join a scheduled session on your own or with your troop. You can also schedule a private session for any of the workshops we offer with a group of 10 or more Scouts. Call for availability and additional details.

Cost: $22 per session unless otherwise noted.
Price includes all program materials, admission to the museum, and the associated patch.

Discover how to communicate with robots using algorithms and computer coding. Get hands-on with Pro-Bots and Ozobots to practice creating programs that robots can follow to carry out simple tasks. Scouts will receive the ‘Programming Robots’ patch upon completion.

Foray into the fascinating world of robotics! Use Lego WeDo 2.0 kits to build and program a robot that moves and uses sensors to gather information from the environment. Scouts will receive the ‘Programming Robots’ patch upon completion.

Brownie Computer Expert
9 am – Noon
Become a computer expert as you explore the different ways you can use technology. Create and animate artwork, take a virtual trip through space, and design and play video games.

Junior – Entertainment Technology
1 – 4pm
Explore the science that goes into creating your favorite forms of entertainment! Dive into video game design with Scratch, use green screen technology to make awesome special effects, and discover how to compose digital music.

Feb. 17

Cadette – Breathe Journey*
9 am – Noon
Get a jumpstart on your journey as you learn all about the air around us and how to improve its’ quality.  Investigate sounds and scents, and experiment with the science behind the atmosphere.

Cadette – Special Agent
1 – 4 pm
Learn about the science of forensics and crime scene detection. Analyze fingerprints, investigate DNA, and test your skills as an eyewitness.

Do you have what it takes to be a detective? Hone your powers of observation, analyze fingerprints, and decipher codes. Then put it all together as you set up a crime scene to test your fellow Scouts!

Get moving on your journey as you explore the world of energy! Make recycled paper beads, observe animals in action, and find out how to make an energy efficient building!

Start thinking like a programmer as you use computer coding to create games, animations, and apps. Practice using algorithms and codes to communicate with fellow scouts, and then transfer your skills to the computer!

Brownie – Household Elf
1 – 4 pm
Learn about the importance of conserving energy and reducing waste in your home and community! Measure the energy usage of common electronics, make an all-natural cleaning spray, and find creative ways to recycle materials.

April 14

Daisy – Rosie and Clover Petals
9 am – Noon
Become upcycle artists creating masterpieces using recycled materials.  Engineer skyscrapers and bridges using biodegradable packing materials.  We’ll learn to take care of the environment so we can do our part to protect planet Earth.

Brownie – Think Like an Engineer Journey*

Take your first steps towards thinking like an engineer as you learn about the design process, then go from the drawing board to prototype! From mechanical hands to water-reclamation devices, you will discover how engineers can change the future!
