  • Contribute to a buzz that bolsters national and international recognition of Pittsburgh by showcasing the global nature and impact of individuals, companies and universities and providing a forum for them to network and interact with visitors
  • Provide unique destination events that entertain, inspire and motivate visitors from the region and beyond to explore discoveries, innovations and issues regarding science and technology in the 21st century
  • Provide content links that empower visitors to explore topics and participate in public discussion beyond SciTech
  • Contribute to the national priority to increase interest and participation in science and technology careers

Background

SciTech is a grassroots organization that was initiated in 1999 with the support of Carnegie Science Center and more than 100 academic institutions, businesses, corporations, and professional societies. SciTech is under the 501(c)(3) of Carnegie Science Center. However, it operates independently to secure the funds needed for the operations and programs. An executive committee comprised of corporations and non-profit leaders guides SciTech. The concept was developed based on the knowledge gained through the operations and programs of the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair. SciTech is the only one of its kind in the United States. It is a major initiative for Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and Northern West Virginia designed to highlight the accomplishments of the region in engineering, medicine, science, and technology as well, its economy and citizens. It is a celebration that is interactive, informative, and entertaining for adults, families, schools and the science and technology community.
