As part of the 25th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s landmark film, Schindler’s List, The Rangos Giant Cinema at Carnegie Science Center is among a select number of theaters around the country presenting a new, 4K restoration of the enduring story.

Spielberg personally supervised the restoration from the original film negative in 4K resolution and Dolby Atmos® surround sound. As the only theater in western Pennsylvania with 4K laser projection and a Dolby Atmos system with 45 speakers, The Rangos is honored to share this timeless masterpiece with the Pittsburgh community.

Schindler’s List, based on a 1983 novel of the same name by Thomas Keneally, follows Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist portrayed by Liam Neeson, who saved the lives of more than 1,100 Jews during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories.

Spielberg shot the film in stunning, stark black-and-white film over 72 days in Poland to give the film the look and feel of a documentary. It won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Spielberg, who shot The Library of Congress selected Schindler’s List for preservation in the National Film Registry in 2004. In 2007, the American Film Institute ranked the film 8th on its list of the 100 Greatest American Films of All Time.

This event will include an introduction by Dr. Lauren Bairnsfather, director of the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh, about the significance of the film and local connections to Oskar Schindler. The center, located in Pittsburgh’s Hazelwood neighborhood, seeks to inspire engagement with Holocaust history and connect it to the injustices of today.
