Ages 10-12 Full Day Camps

Cost: $225 members / $250 non-members per session
(Camps with field trips or extra supplies are subject to additional costs listed in descriptions.)

Full-day camps run from 9 am – 3 pm
Campers must bring their lunches

* No camp on July 4. Reduced price for four-day camp: $180 members / $200 non-members.

Design Challenge: Mission to Mars

Help your fellow astronauts survive a mission to Mars by engineering everything you need to stay alive! Make a water filter, design a greenhouse, and create vehicles to explore the planet.

Medical Mysteries

Don your scrubs and become a doctor for a week as you uncover the mysteries of the human body. Explore the various body systems, learn about cutting edge surgical techniques, and diagnose some common and not-so-common ailments.

Science Apprentice

Do you want to be a scientist? Learn about chemistry, physics, biology, and more as you explore a different science topic each day and perform experiments. Explore some different science careers and see if one might be the perfect fit for you!

Technology and imagination unite as you combine craft materials and robotic components to build and animate robotic creations. Using visual programming software and Hummingbird Robotics Kits, campers will engage in the artistic side of robotics.

Camp DIY: The Science of Making

Spend a week learning the science behind art and design. Use the latest 3D printing technology to dream up a new creation, then turn a smart phone or tablet into a hologram projector! Design an image, then transfer it onto fabric, become part of the "upcycling" craze, even make a custom leather cuff. The best part? You’ll learn how to do it all yourself!

Advanced Robotics

Are you interested in being a roboticist? See if you have what it takes to design, build, and test your own robots. Use LEGO Education's EV3 software and technology to build a battle bot, get creative with Hummingbird Robotics Kits, and learn some programming along the way!

Extreme Minecraft

Explore and build in our cooperative Minecraft server with your fellow campers. Learn about 3D modeling and watch a 3D printer in action. Bring the virtual world into the real world as you learn about geography, ecology, chemistry while performing hands on experiments. Learn how to program as you direct virtual turtles within the Minecraft world.

River Camp

Hoist your sail for science and explore life on Pittsburgh's three rivers. Get your bearings with a Just Ducky boat trip, and examine the rivers close up on a kayak. Study the life in and around the rivers, from microscopic plankton to majestic birds.

Kennywood Camp

A long-time favorite! Explore the science of amusement parks as you discover the physics of your favorite rides, the math behind carnival games, and the sweet chemistry of cotton candy! Put that knowledge to good use as you conclude the week with a field trip to Kennywood.

Explore Pittsburgh

Learn about our beautiful city through a series of activities and trips. Visit Heinz Field and the National Aviary as you take a look at the science of football and the power of flight. Explore outdoor ecology, put our city's environmental health to the test, and get your body moving as you kayak, fish, and hike!

Build It: Maker Camp*

Experience first-hand all the new technologies Fab Lab Carnegie Science Center has to offer: 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, and more CNC machines. Learn the design software for both 2D and 3D machines and make daily projects to take home!

Build It: Videogame Arcade*

Learn about game development and get creative with your own games. Use Scratch programming language and the MaKey MaKey board to design your own video game and hand-held controller. Transform the Fab Lab into an arcade as you share your game with other campers on the final day.

Build It: Game of Drones*

$300 members / $325 non-members (drone kit and materials fee included in price)
Experiment with the science behind quad copter flight as you assemble and build your own mini indoor drone. Using the Fab Lab's 3D printer and laser cutter, design, and test your drone chassis. Challenge other drones in an indoor obstacle course the final day of camp.

*Build It Camps are held in Fab Lab Carnegie Science Center, a digital maker space with 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC vinyl cutters, and other rapid prototyping machinery. Basic computer and mouse skills are necessary to attend these camps and space is limited.
