21+ Night

6 – 10 pm

All those who have ever wanted to enjoy Carnegie Science Center without having to elbow 8-year-olds out of the way for a chance to compete against the Air Hockeybot or launch a rocket into the air, will not want to miss 21+ Night at Carnegie Science Center.

Highmark SportsWorks® and the USS Requin Submarine will not be open for the evening.

21+ Construction

April 28, 2017

$12 advance, $17 at the door.
10% member discount.

The construction on our new Science Pavilion that will expand our current exhibit space adds to the fun of 21+ Night! Join us for a night of activities and presentations about the science of construction.

Join City Theatre staff members and the production team from the theater's upcoming play Ironbound a riveting portrait of an independent Polish immigrant searching for the American Dream, as they discuss the process of bringing a play from the page to the stage. Try your hand at building your own scene in front of the Science Center's Green Screen using lines from the play and virtual backdrops, or use recycled materials to design your own set after hearing how the pros do it – from old-school hand drawn methods, to modern CAD software.

Put your engineering skills to the test as you make boats out of foil, then test various vessels to see which holds the most weight. If that doesn't float your boat, engineer a structure out of the big blocks from BLUE! Release your inner engineer with our construction tables full of LEGO bricks and K'nex pieces, no hard hat required! Watch as we demonstrate modern rapid prototyping with a 3D printer from our Fab Lab!

Listen to live music provided by local band Nightly Standard.

For a few dollars more, watch our newest Omnimax Movie Dream Big. See firsthand how bridges are made in undeveloped countries, how buildings are designed to survive an earthquake, and how a high school team used feminine hygiene to compete in a robotics competition against elite colleges.

As always, 21+ Night features cash bars, snacks available for purchase, and the chance to experience four floors of hands-on exhibits – with no kids! Participants get a discount on Omnimax and laser shows that evening.

Admission is just $12 for tickets purchased by noon the day of the event. If tickets are still available, they can be purchased for $17 at the door. Tickets will be sold until the event is sold out.

Once you have purchased tickets, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. To obtain your event wristband, show your Photo I.D. at the ticket counter when you arrive for 21+ Night.
