Internships

The College Internship Program at Carnegie Science Center is open to undergraduate students, graduate students, recent graduates, and early career professionals seeking specific learning opportunities provided by the Science Center. College internships are not available to any student eligible for our Teen Volunteer Program. The High School Internship Program is open to high school students between the ages of 14–18.

You don’t have to be a STEM major to inter at the Science Center! We accept all majors for our internships. From food and nutrition, to business, to event planning, to physics there may be a department that fits your course of study.

Each intern will be provided with the opportunity to be creative, apply classroom studies in a practical application, and to develop personally and professionally. In return, Carnegie Science Center will receive valuable assistance that contributes significantly to the Science Center’s goals.

Interns may prepare and evaluate educational materials, assist with staff training, help children explore the wonders of science, research science content for shows and exhibits, assist with creative planning and design of marketing materials, and much more!

Carnegie Science Center will provide free parking to interns when they are onsite for internship shifts.

A minimum of 120 hours is needed to complete an internship. School credits and/or the internship position may determine the number of hours per week, but most internships are 10–15 hours/week.

Upon acceptance into the program, all interns are required to provide and pay for background checks and clearances. Interns who have lived in Pennsylvania for at least 10 years must have their Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 33) and Criminal Record Check Clearance (Act 34). Interns who have lived in Pennsylvania for less than 10 years must have their Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 33) and Criminal Record Check Clearance (Act 34) plus an FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114). Act 33 and 34 Clearances are free for interns.

Interns must submit the required clearances and complete a required orientation before they can begin their internship.
