JOB TITLE: Museum Educator Assistant

DESCRIPTION: Powdermill Nature Reserve is Carnegie Museum of Natural History's environmental research center. Located 55 miles southeast of Pittsburgh in Rector, Pennsylvania, Powdermill is a field station and laboratory where researchers do long-term studies of natural populations in western Pennsylvania. In addition to being positioned for Appalachian-specific studies in ornithology, ecology, invertebrate zoology, and botany.

We currently seek museum educator assistants that may assist educators with instruction for children and/or assist with logistical and materials support for educational programs. This position is scheduled primarily with summer camp programs. This position may include occasional evening and weekend hours.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: We are looking for energetic and charismatic individuals who are interested in assisting educators in teaching about how natural history affects contemporary life through topics in environmental science, geology, biology, and anthropology. Experience working with young people in a camp or educational capacity is preferred. Current enrollment in (or graduation from) an undergraduate or graduate course of study in environmental science, geology, biology, anthropology, or education is preferred but is not required. Candidates must be available to work full time Monday-Friday during the weeks of June 18, June 25, July 9, July 16, July 23, and July 30, and part time during the weeks of July 2 and August 6, and on June 16. Some weekend or evening work may be required as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work includes occasional strenuous hiking, working in cold streams, carrying substantial loads over rough terrain and through forested areas, perhaps in inclement weather.
