Experience the World’s Largest Exhibition of LEGO® Art

Heralded by CNN as a “Global Must-See Exhibition,” THE ART OF THE BRICK by artist Nathan Sawaya is a critically acclaimed collection of inspiring artworks made exclusively from one of the most recognizable toys in the world: the LEGO® brick. From child’s toy to sophisticated art form and beyond, THE ART OF THE BRICK features original pieces as well as re-imagined versions of the world’s most famous art masterpieces like Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, as well as a gallery showcasing an innovative, multimedia collection of LEGO brick-infused photography produced in tandem with award-winning photographer Dean West. The exhibit is an adventure for adults, children, art enthusiasts, and anyone who has ever picked up a LEGO and let their imagination run free!

Now offering THE ART OF THE BRICK Verbal Description Tours

Carnegie Science Center offers verbal description tours for visitors who are blind or partially sighted. These scheduled tours, included in the price of a ticket to THE ART OF THE BRICK, are 90 minutes in length and take visitors through the critically acclaimed collection of artwork by Nathan Sawaya. From child’s toy to sophisticated art form and beyond, THE ART OF THE BRICK features original pieces as well as re-imagined versions of the world’s most famous art masterpieces like Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.

Museum guides are specially trained to lead these tours, which allow participants to touch certain objects and form visualizations of the art through close, careful descriptions.

Reservations are required as space is limited. Reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance.

About the Artist

Nathan Sawaya has spent his artistic career creating works from unlikely objects and inspirations. The touring exhibition THE ART OF THE BRICK continues this trend thought the creation of large-scale sculptures using the popular toy building blocks and is the first exhibition of its type to use LEGO exclusively. Sawaya’s medium works to engage audiences young and old by utilizing a children’s toy to demonstrate sophisticated and complex concepts of art and design.

THE ART OF THE BRICK has visited more than 80 cities worldwide and has been exhibited on every continent with the exception of Antarctica. Sawaya is said to possess the largest individual collection of LEGO bricks with over 6 million pieces in his studio.

Discover your inner architect in our free-play and hands-on activity area, Science of the Brick!

THE ART OF THE BRICK is sure to inspire your inner architect, so when you’re finished touring the exhibition, explore Science of the Brick! This hands-on builder activity area features 17 activity tables with eight different brick building challenges and interactives, plus free-play and demonstration areas. Create your own brick masterpieces, build a maze out of LEGO bricks, design a brick race car at the Drag Race, and more!

The purchase of a ticket to THE ART OF THE BRICK is required for access to Science of the Brick.
