Summer 2014: Fizz, Boom, Read!

If your library is participating in the Summer 2014 reading program Fizz, Boom, Read! Carnegie Science Center can give it some extra excitement. Bring Science on the Road to your location to kick off your summer reading program, keep motivation high, or as an ending celebration.

Assembly Programs

Fire & Ice: Students learn about combustion and the fire triangle, then see what happens when objects are frozen at 320 degrees below zero in liquid nitrogen. Appropriate for K-8. 45 minutes. Up to 250 people. $375

Ion Jones and the Lost Castle of Chemistry: Discover the hidden treasures of chemistry in this action-packed adventure! Team up with "Ion" Jones and real PPG scientists on a global quest to collect the elements. Appropriate for K-8. 45 minutes. Up to 250 people. $475

Hands-On Chemistry Programs

Chemical Concoctions Discovery Day: Make your own colored sidewalk chalk and silly putty to take home. Up to 30 children/session. Geared toward K-2. 45 minutes. $120

"Growing and Shrinking" Club Science program: Take home your own "Grow Beast" and watch it grow over time to 5 times its size in water. Make a necklace from plastic and watch it shrink to 1/4 its size using heat. Up to 25 children/session. One hour. Geared for K-2nd. $125

"Now You See It, Now You Don't" Club Science program: Create invisible ink drawings, wear special glasses to see rainbows of light, and make Glow-in-the-Dark Slime. Up to 25 children/session. One hour. Geared for K-2. $125

"Chem in a Bag" Discovery Day: Conduct experiments that produce exciting temperature-changing results . Up to 30 children/session. 45 minutes. Geared for 3rd grade and up. $120

"Chemical Creations" Discovery Day: Investigate different kinds of slime through experimentation. Up to 30 children/session. 45 minutes. Geared for 3rd grade and up. $120

"Science in a Tube" Club Science program: Experiment with Dry Ice, create Dry Ice bubbles, and see how Carbon Dioxide can put out a fire or blow up balloons. Up to 25 children/session. One hour. Geared for 3rd grade and up. $125 Think chemistry is too messy?

For teens: Spark a Reaction!

"Sparks Anyone?" Classroom Program: Witness shocking experiments that create noise and great visual effects. Up to 30 teens/session. 45 minutes. Geared for 5th grade and up. $120

New Portable Planetarium Show World in Motion: No one who steps into our brand-new digital dome comes away without a "WOW" reaction! Requirements: 12' ceiling, 20' x 20' floor space. Up to 30 teens. $240/2 show minimum. 45 minutes/session. (Program is adaptable for all age audiences who have no mobility issues).
