Our New System
The new projection system features four high powered laser projectors that deliver on-dome visuals and 3D atmospheric effects that fill the air above the audience. Each laser delivers approximately seven times more output power than the previous laser system – and appears many, many times brighter. These projectors are distributed exclusively in the Americas by Lightwave International, a Pittsburgh-based company that also provides laser services for Roger Waters, the original creative genius behind Pink Floyd.
In addition to stunning new light and sound capabilities, the new laser projection system is also “green.” Unlike the Science Center’s previous laser system, the new technology uses air instead of running water to cool the system and uses less electricity. The Science Center will save approximately 300,000 gallons of water per year and over 30,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity – representing about 500,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.
