H2Oh! River Weekend showcases special water-themed demonstrations and activities inspired by our H2Oh! Why Our Rivers Matter exhibit. Learn the interconnectedness of the "web of life" and check out live local fish, reptiles, and amphibians in our Field Station. Take a stroll through our brand new Nimick Forbesway Foundation Rain Garden, and learn how to help protect our waterways.
Embrace your curious nature by exploring the concepts of buoyancy, biodiversity, and water purification.
The weekend includes:
- Meet some of the most interesting live local fish, reptiles, and amphibians that live in our rivers while exploring how they work together in the "web of life"
- Dive into activities that show where our water comes from
- Discover how we can purify drinking water in areas where modern filtration is impossible
- Try your hand at creating a "flinker" that neither sinks nor floats
- Become a citizen scientist and collect data about the animals and plants that depend on our rivers
- Peer into the world of microscopic organisms with Alcosan
- Try your hand at creating a balanced water-treatment system, as you control rain gardens, holding tanks and processing stations during a ‘typical' day of rainfall and water usage in Pittsburgh at the Alcosan Daily Challenge
- Add on to the adventure by purchasing tickets to Backyard Wilderness inside The Rangos Giant Cinema
- Witness the combination of science and old-time fun with a world-record holding stone skipper (Sunday only)
