In celebration of National Hunger Action Month in September, 91.3 WYEP and 90.5 WESA are partnering with Carnegie Science Center and Dollar Bank to collect food donations for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank as part of a Bike to Feed Families event. Beginning, Monday, September 9 and running through Friday, October 4, Carnegie Science Center will accept non-perishable food donations in their lobby area.
In celebration of Carnegie Science's Center's BIKES: Science on Two Wheels exhibit, community volunteers will bike all donations received at Carnegie Science Center 12.5 miles to the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank's Duquesne location. The Bike to Feed Families volunteer ride will begin at 10 am on Saturday, October 5 at Carnegie Science Center.
In an effort to keep the bike loads light for riders, the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank has recommended the following items:
High fiber cereal
Canned Tuna & Salmon in Water
No glass, please
Donations can be dropped off at Carnegie Science Center anytime during regular business hours between September 9 – October 4. On Saturday, September 28th, Carnegie Science Center will offer a $2 off general admission discount to each person bringing a food donation the Science Center on that day.
